The
family of Zimmermann originates from Willisau in the Canton of Lucerne in
Switzerland.
Christian Emmanuel von Zimmermann was a Marshall of France in 1790 and created
the title of Count von Zimmermann in 1790.
This title was created by Charles Theodore , Vicar of the Holy Roman Empire with
remainder to his Legitimate and natural heirs and descendants of both sexes.
Under Germanic law all male from male would be entitled to the style of Count
and females would be entitled to the courtesy style of Countess for life or
until marriage.
In this case of this title, male and female descendants are entitled to style
themselves Counts and Countess's should they so desire.
Count Christian Emmanuel von Zimmermann married to Sofie de Mosset, Comtesse de
Chavagne and died in 1815.
General Alexander von Zimmermann succeeded as the 2nd Count and was a Knight to
several orders. Also Adjutant General in the Army of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies
and Military Governor of Bari in 1825.
Count General Alexander married Countess Charlotte Jenison de Walworth, who
brother married the daughter of the Ducal House of Grafton.
The next successor was General Frederick von Zimmermann who died unmarried in
1870 and his heir was his sister's Grandson Charles Ermolao dei Marchese Barbaro.(

Charles Ermolao added the surname of Zimmermann upon succession and was the 4th
Count. Charles was also a member of many orders .
Charles Ermolao eldest brother George succeeded as the 5th Marquis of St George.
Charles Ermolao was succeeded by his son Nazzareno as the 5th Count and married
a daughter of the de Piro family
The present holder is Charles Zimmermann Barbaro or now Charles St George, as
the 6th Count von Zimmermann.
Charles and his brother Edward shorten their surname to St George and both live
in England.
Count Edward St George third wife is Lady Henrietta Fitzroy , the daughter of
the 10th Duke of Grafton and has children from this marriage and also from his
previous two marriages.
The 6th Count has four sons from two marriages.
