The family of Sant Manduca comes from two
very important Maltese Families, the Counts of Sant, and the Counts of
Montalto families. Note that
the direct male descendant is Gio Francesco Sant, the 2nd Count
Sant, who married in 1777 to Chiara Bonici-Platamone-Cassia,
7th Baroness di Ghariexem e Tabia.
From this
union produced much as the ancestors to most of the present Nobility today
in Malta.
In the male descent, the present
families are directly descend, they are the Sant Cassia’s the Senior
branch, whom still carry the titles of Counts Sant and the Barony di
Ghariexem e Tabia. Another branch is the Sant Fourniers, they are the
‘middle branch ‘ of the Sants , also descendants of the 2nd
Count Sant. The Sant Fournier's, are Counts Fournier dePausier, and Barons de Pausiers of
Austria.
The younger
branch is the Sant Manduca’s,
this family are very much
well connected to the nobility by marriage.
The first
Sant Manduca was Guiseppe dei Conti Sant Manduca, his parents were
Francesco Saverio dei Conti Sant, a Grandson of the 2nd Count
Sant and Maria Teresa dei Conti Manduca, the Granddaughter of the 3rd Count of
Montalto.
Guiseppe
dei Conti Sant Manduca (c
1847-85), married in 1867 to the daughter of Sir Antonio Micallef G.C.M.G.
L.L.D, President of H.M. Court of Appeal , and sired two sons, and a
daughter.
Guiseppe’s
younger son Luigi (c
1881-1938), married Giovanna Maempel.
Luigi’s son
Guiseppe dei Conti Sant Manduca (c 1909-58), married Maud
Cassar-Torreggiani (of the wealthy and well connected family in Malta-See
Cassar-Torreggiani).
Their son
Chev. John Mary dei Conti Sant Manduca (c 1938-, married in 1965 to
Louisette Bonnici-Mallia ( descendant of the Testaferrata-Moroni-Viani,
and the Barbaro-Sant families) Chev.
John Mary dei Conti Sant
Manduca won a court case to the designation of ‘dei Conti, confirmed by
the Maltese courts in 1973 and is a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the
Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
They have two sons, Peter (b. 15/01/1966) and Nicholas
(b.1971)
Peter dei Conti Sant Manduca is
married to the Daughter of the 6th Marquis di Gnien Is-Sultan
and have two children.
Another
branch that is connected to the Sant Manduca’s are the
Falzon-Sant-Manduca’s who are the current holders of the Barony of
Tabria.
