The Mattei Family are of Great disctinction, being part of the Roman Nobility, and also Hereditary Roman Patricians . This family are descendants of the Duca’s di Giove, who still carry this title today.

Though , this branch carried important people in the 19th Century, due to Gio Batta Mattei, becoming a Duca di Mondello in 1800 by the King of Two Sicilies, though died without issue.

Gio Batta’s brother Don Ferdinando , was a Bishop of Rhodes and later of Malta, died in 1829

 

The present holders of title are from the same stem of the Mattei family, Senator Dr Alfredo Mattei LL.D , Created Marquis  in 1899 by Pope Leo XIII, Firstly, without succession and in 1906, the title was extended to the Male primogenital line in lawful wedlock and not separated from the Catholic church.

 

The Marquis dying in 1930, succeeded by his son Anthony , who lived in England, married to Georgette Madill, without any issue, his heir was his nephew Lt. Col John Bradshaw Mattei B.A. (Hons.), R.A. (Retd.), who has a son, Joseph Anthony Bradshaw Mattei.
