The German family of Von Brockdorff were ennobled Barons von Brockdorff in 1432 by Emperor Sigismund of the Holy Roman Empire with style to all descendants of Barons or Baroness. This family is quite large in Germany, and quite respected with much inter-married with the German / Austrian Nobility and at late Royalty.

The earliest ancestor of the von Brockdorff was Hildevus von Brockdorff a Knight , about 1220 A.D.This family is also hereditary Knight of the Holy Roman empire, a right to all descendants. The first von Brockdorff to come to Malta was Baron Cai Frederich von Brockdorff (c 1775-1850), his wife was Josepha Sebastina di Mecca from Messina, Italy.

Their sons were Lewis-Dominic (c 1814-57), Frederick, Giusseppe, and Leopold, all have descendants in Malta. One member of the von Brockdorff family married to the daughter of the Marquis Cassar Desain. Veronica dei Marchese Cassar-Desain, married in 1960 to Baron Bernard von Brockdorff, had many children.

Today, this family integrated with the Maltese Socialites and business communities, and are very much a respected family with such an interesting connection.
